Attending SOA for middle and high school shaped me not only as a dancer, but as a person. The dance department taught me discipline, confidence, teamwork, and how to express myself creatively. SOA also gave me many opportunities to choreograph, which helped prepare me for college opportunities. At Flagler College, I auditioned for the dance team and in my sophomore year, I earned a role as a choreographer. I also taught and choreographed for young dancers at a travel studio. SOA also helped prepare me for stage management through tech opportunities in the dance department. I recently was the stage manager of a whole performance for the Dance Team at Flagler College. I’m very grateful for all the experiences and lessons SOA gave me that continue to influence me today!
– Lola Woodall class of 2024
The School of the Arts prepared me for college by introducing concepts such as the choreographic process, expanding my knowledge of styles, and instilling core values of professional and discipline within the classroom. As an educator now myself, it has prepared me tremendously in my content knowledge by not only focusing on technique but also providing me a rich understanding on the pioneers and historical context of Ballet, Modern, Jazz and other styles. By giving us so many incredible opportunities outside of the classroom, I was able to get the chance to experience professional performances, dance festivals, behind the scenes at Disney, and more as a future dance professional. Taking that knowledge, I’m able to better educate my students by giving them real world examples. My best piece of advice is to take advantage of EVERY opportunity. Go to every field trip, extra classes.. and make the most of every 90 minute block. Once you’re grown up and graduated, you will wish for the times you could move full out!
