NHSDA

     SOA has an active high school chapter of National Honors Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA). Dancers are awarded membership in recognition of their collaborative teamwork, motivation and leadership in dance choreography, performance, mentoring and production. Membership requires a GPA of at least 3.2 and 30 points of documented dance activities like classes, performances, rehearsals, research and workshops. Ms. T serves as the chapter’s faculty sponsor, and is available to answer dancers’ questions about joining NHSDA. Junior Induction Point System

Students who have been inducted into the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA) Secondary Program and are current juniors and seniors in High School are eligible for the NDEO Artistic Merit, Leadership and Academic Achievement Award, the highest student dance award in the nation. This year, the National Winner of the award will receive up to a $1000 scholarship and a certificate. There will also be National Finalists and Honorable Mention Recipients. Applicants may be eligible for a state level award if their NDEO State Affiliate chooses to present one.

All National award recipients are invited to attend NDEO’s National Conference. The award recipients can attend the conference to be publicly recognized for their award in front the 500+ NDEO members, participate in a choreography and performance workshop, and attend regular conference sessions. (Travel and lodging costs not included.) Traveling with a parent chaperone is recommended. If traveling with a dance teacher chaperone, teacher must pay conference registration fees.
