6th Grade: Julie DeLizzo  Jan 30-Feb 3

JULIE DeLIZZA is a dance teacher, choreographer and performer currently living in Charleston, South Carolina. She graduated from the Collegjulie-delizza-photo-creditadam-chandlere of Charleston in 2010 with degrees in History and Secondary Education and a minor in Dance. In 2012 she attended the American Dance Festival in Durham, NC and landed auditions to study intensively with dancers from Pilobolus and Bill T. Jones Dance Company and perform in the Hollins University MFA Final Concert. DeLizza is in her sixth season dancing with Annex Dance Company and has taught in company residencies throughout the Charleston County School District. In 2014 Julie spoke and performed at TEDx Charleston with Annex Dance Company and students from Memminger Elementary. Julie has taught at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School and Wando High School, where she is the co-director of the Wando Dance Company. Julie teaches all levels and genres of dance at Dance Moves of Charleston where she is the Artistic Director of the Dance Moves Youth Company, Charleston’s only modern dance-based youth company. She is thrilled to return to SOA this year as a guest artist!

 

7th Grade: Jodie Capea  Dec 5-9

Jodie began her dance training in Ohio under the direction of Nan Klinger with the Cuyahoga Valley Youth Ballet. Other training includes Giacobbe Academy of Dance and the New Orleans Youth Ballet, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, Chatauqua Institute, North Carolina School of the Arts, and Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet. Jodie earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Wright State University while performing with Dayton Ballet. After college, Jodie performed with Richmond Ballet and then with Charleston Ballet Theatre. After retiring from dance, Jodie earned her Montessori certification and taught at a Montessori preschool for 3 years before starting her own family. She has been teaching ballet for 14 years, the last 4 of which she has been teaching at Charleston Dance Institute in Mount Pleasant. She is also the co-founder and director of Charleston Dance Institute’s Junior Youth Ballet Company. Outside of teaching, Jodie enjoys spending time with her husband and her 3 kids, the oldest of whom is a theater major at School of the Arts.

 

8th Grade:  Angela Gallo Jan 9-13

Angela M Gallo is Artistic Director of Sapphire Moon Dance Company and Professor of Dance at Coker College. Angela’s performance highlights include: the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland; Dance Theatre Workshop, White Wave Cool NY Festival, The Dancenow Downtown Festival, the Fringe Festival of Independent Artists (Toronto) and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. She has danced with The Power Company (SC), AmDAT: Dance Art Technology (NY), worked on smaller projects with Ballet Preljocaj and Anou Skan (France), Eisenhower Dance Ensemble(MI) and performed in works by Doug Varone, Dan Wagoner, Christian Von Howard and Jose Limon. She recently was awarded the South Carolina Dance Associations Advocacy Award. Angela holds an MFA in Dance from the University of Michigan. Angela is also a Pilates instructor certified through the Pilates Method Alliance and trained at the Kane School of Core Integration in NYC and the Core Grace Studios in Ann Arbor, MI.
