Amanda Wingard , 7th Grade dance teacher, grew up in Charleston, attending the School of the Arts for middle and high school, majoring in Dance. It was during her time at SOA that she grew passionate about pursuing Dance Education as a career and teaching dancers in an arts school like SOA. As a freshman in college, she was hired to teach at the Charleston County SMAART program and has been teaching every summer since, making this her 7th year teaching in this program. Through this opportunity with CCSD, she was also asked to teach integrated lessons as a part of a pilot program within 2 elementary schools, focusing on using dance as a tool to understand poetry, as well as to begin an after school dance program for the Spring of 2013 at Baptist Hill Middle/High School. While studying dance education at the University of South Carolina, she was able to work with master teachers across the region and nation as she attended conferences across South Carolina, in Texas, Minnesota, California and Florida where she also was able to present research, perform choreography, and teach classes. After graduating from USC in 2013, she immediately took a teaching position at Alston Middle School in Summerville, SC where she directed their dance program for 3 years. This year she is returning to her alma mater to teach the 7th grade SOA dance students. She is very excited to teach these students this year!
